Aging is a fact that
everyone will get old but we tend to wonder why some people make growing old so
easy. Some don’t even look any closer to how old they really are and then we
begin to wonder what their secret is to looking brilliant as ever. Perhaps the
works of science may be one of their secrets but little of us know that there
really is no secret, the trick is just doing the right thing for the body along
with a few handy tips that we can make use of to fight aging.
How to Fight Aging
Keep off the sun
Skin experts say that
being exposed to sunshine adds to the increase of the levels of serotonin which
is said to be the “feel-good” hormone in the brain. But sadly, too much
exposure to the sun also has negative effects on the skin most especially
visible to people who are aging. It is said that the skin that is exposed
to the sun often happen to age faster than those areas not that exposed. The
UVB rays of the sun affects the outermost layer of the skin whereas the UVA
rays penetrates up to the middle layer of the skin. The heat from the sun goes
deep into the layers of the skin’s tissues and this eventually causes wrinkles,
thinning of the skin, changes in skin color and most evidently the texture. To
avoid premature aging of the skin, it would be best to keep off the sun most
especially during the middle of the day. Make sure that if you go out during
this time, you apply sunscreen but remember that sunscreen can only protect you
from UVB rays not UVA rays or infrared radiation so as much as possible avoid
sun exposure if you can.
You are what you eat
The food that we eat
great affects our health which is why it is recommended that we have proper
nutrition most especially when it comes to treatment and development of certain
conditions such as cancer, eye problems, heart diseases and others. As we get older,
our skin loses its elasticity due to the lowered production of collagen which
can be due to certain factors. To help lessen this negative effect of aging, it
would be best to eat healthy foods.
More Ways Against Aging
Try a Different Sleep Position
The skin experts of the
American Academy of Dermatology revealed that if a person sleeps face down (or
facing the pillow) each night, there is a higher chance of developing sleep
lines. Sleep lines are wrinkles that appear on the skin and do not go away even
after waking up. It would be best to change your sleep position because
positions that can create sleep lines on the face can make it harder to remove
such facial lines most especially as we age.
Smoking won’t help
One of the things that
speed up the aging process is actually smoking. Smoking not only contributes to
a higher risk of developing heart disease, cancer or diabetes but it also
affects the skin. This is because nicotine causes narrowing of the blood
vessels which hampers blood flow of the skin thereby depriving it of essential
nutrients such as oxygen and vitamins. Smoking also lowers production of
collagen causing loss of elasticity of the skin leading to wrinkles.
Anti-aging may seem such an impossible thing to achieve for we all grow old but we can always fight off the negative effects it can bring about with the help of these few guidelines.
