Pregnancy is one exciting and wonderful experience for women. But in most cases especially for first time mothers, pregnancy could also lead to anxiety because of the many questions and worries. Health experts have always said that it is ideal to be aware of the different stages in pregnancy in order to know what to expect and what to do in certain stages along with the preparations needed to be done.
A complete pregnancy term is 40 to 42 weeks. Each week causes different physical and emotional changes which are due to the many hormonal changes. The whole term is actually divided into mainly three parts which are the first, second and third trimester.
First Trimester of Pregnancy
The initial stage of pregnancy is identified as the time when there is fast development of the baby in the womb. The first trimester consists of 12 weeks. By the end of the 12th week, the baby has now grown to three inches. This is also the time where dramatic changes happen because of the hormones which results to physical and emotional changes as the baby grows. Morning sickness, fatigue, missed period, mood swings, constipation and food cravings of certain foods. These are commonly experienced by most women and this is normal which is why pregnant women should not worry about this. It is recommended that a pregnant woman consults her doctor every four weeks for regular check-up. A healthy diet and drinking lots of water are essential in this stage.
Second Trimester of Pregnancy
Because the baby has now increased in size, the pregnant woman’s belly now grows bigger. After three months, the baby will now be 14 inches in size and will weigh around 2.5 to 3 pounds. This is the time when morning sickness slowly subsides. There are instances when premature birth happens after the second stage of pregnancy. Because during this the baby now fully developed organs, chances of survival are high provided that proper medical attention is given. But if no complications are encountered, the final stage of pregnancy is going to be the next stage which will be another 2 to 3 months.
Third Trimester of Pregnancy
The third trimester happens to be the final and most difficult stage as labor coming near. This stage is also termed as the start of the process of childbirth. The baby is still growing until the ninth month and now weighs around 7 pounds and 20 inches long. During this stage, the position of the baby is what will determine as to what method of delivery will be used. If the baby is in a breech position where the feet will come out first the n a Caesarean section will be recommended.
During the whole duration of the pregnancy, it is important to take in the recommended vitamins prescribed by your doctor along with a healthy diet and good habits. There are numerous exercises that a pregnant woman may use for a much easier labor. It is important that a pregnant woman has regular check-ups for her and her baby’s benefit.
