Cancer is one disease that is feared by many and has taken millions of lives. It is the result of overproduction of cells. Health experts say that there are hundreds of types of cancers that affect cells in different parts of the body and these types of cancers are even more divided into different categories. As a result, most of us are unaware that are many rare cancer types that affect both adults and children. These types of cancer fall into the rare type of cancer category if it only affects 15 out of 100,000 people each year.
Uncommon Types of Cancer
Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma
This type of cancer affects the nasopharynx. It affects the back of the throat and the nose making it hard to detect because of its site. The nasopharnyx contains squamous cells and because of gene mutation these cells over reproduce. Due to its abnormal growth, the cells move to other parts of the body. The real cause as to why gene mutation happens is still unknown but studies have shown that being infected with the Epstein-Barr virus increases cancer risk. During the first stages, the symptoms are not visible but as the stage advances, lump in the neck due to inflamed lymph nodes are seen. Other symptoms include nasal congestion, blood nasal discharge, presence of blood in saliva, headaches, loss of hearing and recurring ear infections.
Vaginal Cancer
Vaginal cancer is an uncommon type of cancer among women. This type of cancer happens along the muscular tube that links the outer genitals to the uterus specifically in the cells that lines the birth canal. According to health experts, primary vaginal cancer that originates in the vagina is very rare as there are various types of vaginal cancers. Symptoms of vaginal cancer are abnormal vaginal bleeding, lump in the vagina, pain during urination, watery discharge, constipation and pelvic pain.

Heart Cancer
Heart cancer is very rare because it can either come out as primary heart tumor or secondary heart tumor. Malignant heart cancers come in different types such as leiomyosarcomas, liposarcomas and angiosarcomas to name a few. Heart cancer can lead to death in just two years of diagnosis. They are fatal cancers because it can block the blood flow in the heart and quickly infiltrates the myocardium causing death.
Appendix Cancer
We may have all heard of appendicitis but rarely appendix cancer. A malignant type of appendix cancer called mucinous cystadenocarcinoma affects the wall of the appendix or the epithelial cells of the mucous in the peritoneum.
Male Breast Cancer
Breast cancer could be something we may hear often but this becomes common because it happens mostly to women but breast cancer among males makes it an uncommon type of cancer. This type of cancer spreads in the lymphatic system and blood stream in males similar to what happens to female breast cancer. Because males have smaller breast size as opposed to females, detecting it makes it easier. But most cases of male breast cancer are found in their 3rd to 4th stage.
